I was born and brought up in Glasgow and I currently live in the South East of Glasgow (Cambuslang) with my family.

I have always loved art and drawing, even as a child at the age of 7, I can remember sitting in my big sister's garden drawing a detailed picture of a rose.  At secondary school, I wanted to study art but was unable to do this until my 5th year as I opted to study two languages.  Therefore, in my 5th year (way back in the eighties!), I took Art as a crash course "O Grade" and after securing a ‘1’(A), my teacher advised me to stay on for a 6th year to complete my Higher which would enable me to apply to Art School.  However, being a naïve teenager, I decided to leave school after my 5th year to try and get a job to be self sufficient.

Passion for art never left me as I continued to draw and attended various evening leisure classes.  After having my two children, I often thought about returning to college to study art.  Therefore, once my children were at school and nursery, I eventually (after years of regret) decided to return to college (Langside College, Glasgow) in 2005 to study ‘Higher’ Art and Design.

After securing my “Higher”, I stayed on at college to complete a one year full-time course (NQ Art and Design).  At this point, I was working part-time and I decided to give up my job to attend college full time (I also have a very supportive husband!). I absolutely loved this year and the training I received from three very experienced tutors was amazing.

The course covered detailed training on various mediums such as Acrylics, Oil Paints, Soft Pastels, Oil Pastels, Pen and Ink, Water Colours, Soluble Inks, Silk Painting, Fabric Paints and Batik but more importantly it covered a lot of design work and techniques.  I was also very proud  to win a design award at college…. especially being part of a class of 19 very talented artists.

After successfully completing this course I decided to pursue my interest in design. Therefore, I left college planning to set up my own business to design artwork that would compliment a variety of home and business interiors. However, over the following years, while juggling family commitments and working part-time again, I only painted for leisure, family and friends.  It was not until 2012 that I was able to fully commit myself to painting full time .  I then decided the time was right to fully pursue my passion for Art and Design and finally start up my own business, to sell my own artwork and design bespoke pieces of art for clients.

I love designing artworks which complement interiors.  Usually creating unique abstract works of art using acrylic paint on paper or canvas.  I use a wide variety of techniques to create distinctive works of art.  I just love the texture of paint and the amazing designs that can be created incorporating a variety of natural materials.  I use a basic palette to create unique colours often with the addition of metallic paints that give a fabulous lustre.

I
hope you enjoy looking at my designs and hopefully you will soon own a piece of Catherine Mowbray Original Art Work.
